#2. Kristoffer Ajer (Brentford)
One of the most shocking results of the week came at Molineux, where Thomas Frank's side beat Wolverhampton Wanderers by two goals to nil. Despite playing the final half hour of the match with 10 men, the Bees convincingly won the encounter.
One solid reason for their win was Kristoffer Ajer, who was signed by Brentford from Celtic for $17 million in the summer. The defender had an impressive performance at the back and it looks like he has gelled well along with Ethan Pinnock and Pontus Jansson.
The Norwegian intercepted the ball thrice and had six important recoveries during the game. His tackle on Hee-Chan Hwang right in the closing stages of the match could well have prevented a clear-cut chance of a goal for the Wolves.
Brentford have surely got themselves a brilliant defender.
#1. Thiago Silva (Chelsea)
Chelsea are the side who have been bossing the Premier League this season. Thomas Tuchel's side have no clear weak links at the moment.
Thiago Silva, who is at the tail end of his career, displayed a vintage performance for the Blues at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Brazilian marshaled his team's backline against a side that started the encounter on a high note.
The 36-year old defender broke the deadlock moments after the resumption of the second half with a thumping header from Marcos Alonso's corner kick. Despite being known for his aerial threat, Spurs defenders failed to mark the Brazilian.
At the back, the centre-half was as commanding as ever, recovering the ball on seven occasions and winning all but one of his duels. Silva also intercepted the ball thrice, and his six clearances from the back were crucial for his side.
The former PSG captain wasn't dispossessed a single time during the game. His strong presence at the back provided no real room for Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son to roam around.
All in all, this was one of Silva's best performances in a Chelsea shirt.
