Premier League Gameweek 9 - Flops of the Week

Capture

It was a thrilling gameweek in the Premier League with some great matches. Let us take a look at who were out of sorts for their team this week.

Goalkeeper – Joe Hart (Manchester City)

All was going well, and City were all set to share spoils with Chelsea just until Hart’s bad decision which cost City the game. Furiously rushed to collect Nastasic’s back header but failed, resulting in the vital winner scored by Torres.

Left Back – Gael Clichy (Manchester City)

Was left dumbstruck by Torres in the build-up to the opening goal. He was lacking cover and his weaknesses was well taken advantage of by the Chelsea attackers.

Centre Back – Damien Delaney (Crystal Palace)

Never seemed confident and comfortable with the pace in which Arsenal attacked, especially since Gnabry came on. Almost gave away two sloppy penalties. Looked short of confidence.

Centre Back – Phillepe Senderos (Fulham)

A game to forget for Senderos. Had nothing short of a nightmare. Made messy clearances and was caught sleeping by the alert Lallana who nearly scored. Lambert and Rodriguez were also found taking advantage of Senderos quite easily.

Right Back – Sascha Riether (Fulham)

Was not quite involved except dealing with Lallana and Shaw. Never made those attacking forward runs and was substituted at Half Time.

Centre Midfielder – Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

The Arsenal skipper put his team in front from the spot, but it was cancelled by his sending off. His dismissal almost cost Arsenal the game if it weren’t for Wojciech Szczesny and his top saves.

Centre Midfielder – Tom Cleverley (Manchester United)

Was not clever enough to advance into the right position in the attacks to give himself a good shot at goal. Was eventually taken off by Moyes.

Left Winger – Shinji Kagawa (Manchester United)

The surprise was that Kagawa lasted the whole of 90 minutes. Didn’t seem confident at all with the ball, gave it away every now and then. Was also physically outclassed by Stoke.

Right Winger – Nani (Manchester United)

Third Manchester United player to feature in this list and I can’t help. Very poor performance for the Portuguese. Pieters owned him every now and then. What more – he was booed when taken off.

Centre Forward – Victor Anichebe (West Bromwich Albion)

He almost seemed close to non-existent. Was robbed off the ball each time he got it by Liverpool defenders. And also to be fair, the quality of the ball which he received was also not satisfying.

Centre Forward – Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

The Belgian beast was involved in almost all of Aston Villa’s attack but failed to put it into the net. Missed a penalty, his second miss of the season and wasted many clear cut chances. Had Lukaku been in the place of Benteke, Lukaku would have gone home with the match ball. What Benteke lacked was clearly present in Lukaku.
