According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have enquired about the availability of Mateo Kovacic as they line up alternatives in case their bid for Aaron Ramsey fails.

Ramsey has been in talks with Arsenal over a new contract and his current one will run out next year. So there is a fairly good chance that Chelsea will wait and then sign him on a free next summer.
Despite Kovacic wanting to move out in search of more playing time, Real Madrid are not willing to let him go. Manchester City are also interested in the Croatian centre midfielder after they lost out on Fred and Jorginho who joined Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.
