Gameweek 26 has been a big one for the title race with Manchester City dominating the headlines. City are firmly back in the race for the Premier League title after their 6-0 battering of Chelsea and their talismanic striker, Sergio Aguero has been the protagonist in the Manchester club's resurgence.
Aguero has undoubtedly been the best striker in the Premier League this season and after his hattrick against Chelsea, many think he may just be the best foreign striker the league has ever seen.
Aguero's numbers against Chelsea were staggering; the Argentine scored 3 goals with 3 shots on target, had a 90% pass accuracy and 36 touches. This was Aguero's second hattrick in 3 games, with the first coming against Arsenal in a 3-1 win, proving that he is no flat track bully.
Aguero ironically missed his first chance of the game. Inside the first 10 minutes, Bernardo Silva dribbled through Chelsea's defence and pierced the backline with a perfect low-cross to Aguero. The Argentine found himself in front of an open goal and shockingly poked it wide.
Statistically, it didn't make much of a difference as Aguero went on to find the back of the net thrice from arguably harder positions, from 25 yards out, from a tricky position inside the box and finally from the penalty spot.
The Argentine was 3rd in our Premier League player of the month rankings last time around which was an improvement from his 5th place finish in the preceding rankings. Aguero has hit top form in February just when Manchester City need it the most.
As of this week, he has claimed the top spot with a score of 29.7 and his 17 goals and 6 assists have been very impressive. With the title race all set to go down to the wire, Pep Guardiola will be mighty relieved to have an in-form Aguero in his ranks scoring goals for fun.
He has also added another impressive accomplishment to his CV, equalling Alan Shearer's record for the most number of Premier League hattricks - 11. Furthermore, the Argentine has also become Manchester City's all-time top scorer in the league, surpassing Tommy Johnson (158) with 160 goals. With all that said and done, Sergio Aguero is our Premier League Player of the Week.
