Luis Suarez struck twice on his return to Premier League action as Liverpool ran out as 1-3 winners at Sunderland.
Daniel Sturridge started the goalscoring proceedings in the 28th minute and eight minutes later, Luis Suarez doubled the lead with a fine goal.
Besides the goal, first half did not offer much in terms of football as Sunderland were finding it hard to connect plays.
Second half started on a different note as Emanuele Giaccherini pulled a goal back for the hosts Sunderland in the 52nd minute.
After his goal, the match was contested on a high tempo. However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed in the 89th minute when Luis Suarez scored his second goal of the match.
The match ended 1-3, which takes Liverpool to the second spot on the Premier League table with 13 points already in the bag.
Earlier in the day, Stoke City slipped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of a visiting Norwich City side. Jonathan Howson scored the only goal of the match in the 34th minute.
With this win, Canaries are now level on points with Stoke City and sit at 14th position in the league table, one above Stoke City.
