Premier League star compares himself to Messi and Ronaldo

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has argued that he is on track to mirror the exploits of the world’s two best players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, according to the Daily Mail.

The forward’s outstanding form has lifted The Blues’ to the top of the Premier League but the Belgian has admitted he must win more trophies to prove his pedigree.

“I’m much younger than them. They have won things that I haven’t. But I’m as good as they were at my age. If I want to be like them I need to win trophies. I don’t care what other people think about me, frankly. Ronaldo and Messi, the two best players in the world, are loved and hated. That’s the way it is,” he declared.

Displaying an edge of arrogance, the former Lille player still has some way to go, though, despite his bold claim, as Ronaldo turned 29 last week while Messi is 26. However, the pair won the Ballon d’Or for the first time at the ages of 23 and 22 respectively.

Yet, with the magnificent duo having only improved in recent years, it is an almost impossible task and difficult to judge Hazard alongside arguably the two best players of the modern era that have come to fruition at the same time just yet.

Although Chelsea fans are currently involved in a love-in over the Belgian star’s recent exploits, his future is far from certain, with the youngster having declared he will deem his stint at Stamford Bridge a success only if he can add to his trophy collection.

“We’ll see in three or four years, if I’ve lifted trophies. I came to Chelsea because I knew I would be playing a lot of games. I was successful last season. I have made plenty of friends and people have come to appreciate me straight away,” Hazard insisted.

With the winger making it clear he has big ambitions, few would expect him to stick around if Chelsea’s silverware dries up in the next couple of years, although the West Londoners only look like going from strength to strength with Hazard in their ranks and Mourinho at the helm.

From the 2012/13 season onwards Hazard has created 127 chances while Ronaldo and Messi have managed 95 and 79 respectively.
