Yaya Toure’s performance against Manchester United earned rave reviews from all over. He had complete command in the midfield and swept aside Fellaini and Carrick.
Toure was his usual menacing self in midfield, breaking into tackles and bringing vigor to the heart of the City side. He ran into the United box regularly and also scored a goal in a comfortable win. He was physically dominant, pulling the entire United team back into their own third of the pitch.
Midfield: Mathieu Flamini, Arsenal
With Flamini returning to Arsenal, it was debated whether Wenger had gone with the right player. But his performances since the beginning of the new term have proved his critics wrong.
The Frenchman has added steel to midfield and helps teammates into upping their games constantly. His display against Stoke was inspiring and of high quality, providing indispensable passes for the forwards.
Attacking Midfielder: Mesut Ozil, Arsenal
The German celebrated his home debut with a fine performance against Stoke City. He provided a trio of assists, firing in sharp deliveries throughout the match to ensure his side overcame the resilient opposition.
He set up Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna for headers, and his early free-kick was laid into Aaron Ramsey’s path to finish.
Attacking Midfielder: Morgan Amalfitano, West Brom
Sunderland suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of West Brom, after which, Paolo Di Canio was sacked.
Amalfitano scored his first goal for the Baggies in only his second game, following his move from Marseille, and looks to have brought real quality to the right side of his team.
He also helped Liam Ridgewell for the second goal and was a threat throughout the match.
Forward: Michu, Swansea
The Swansea star man Michu claimed his fifth goal of the season and helped his side utterly dominate Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The Spaniard exhibited pure class in driving forward and taking charge of his team’s attacks.
Striker: Sergio Aguero, Manchester City
Sergio Aguero was unstoppable against Manchester United, volleying in two finishes during the match.
His first goal set the tone for City, taking an Aleksandar Kolarov cross from behind him and delivering a fine finish into the far corner. Later, he counted on some brilliant work by Alvaro Negredo and netted his side’s third. He was fantastic while in possession and in front of goal.
