Hello and welcome to the Premier League transfer news and rumours of the day! Here are the top stories of the night surrounding the Premier League!
Merson on Hudson-Odoi
Chelsea have been inflicted with a transfer ban for the next two windows. As a result, the Blues may have to cling on to some players that they might have sold in the summer.
And according to Paul Merson, Chelsea might not have been aware in advance of the sanction placed on them or else they would have signed more players earlier. He was also curious as to what they would now do with Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has been tracked by Bayern and could move in the summer.
"It seems as if it’s come out of the blue for Chelsea as well because otherwise they would have bought a few more players in the last window," Merson told Sky Sports.
Merson added: "All of a sudden now, you look at Hudson-Odoi, you know you need to get him in the team.
"You know, as Sean [Goater] just said, he gets bums off seats, he gets the ball and everybody’s lifted in the ground, you think he’s gonna do something special.
"Now, does he get a game? Because they can’t sell Willian, they can’t sell Pedro. They can’t sell anybody now in the next two windows, because they can’t bring anybody in."
Monchi to join Arsenal
Former Sevilla director of football Monchi is set to leave Roma after his contract ends in the summer and join Arsenal, according to Marca. Ever since the departure of Sven Mislintat, the Gunners have been looking for someone to oversee their transfers.
Monchi is set to be given full control over player purchases and his prime ideology would be to sign young players with huge potential.
Laporte signs a new deal
Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has signed a new deal with the Etihad outfit that is set to keep him at the club until 2025. The center-back has become an indispensable member for his team and was very happy to sign the deal.
He stated that he has improved as a player and wants to win trophies with the Citizens as he believes that it is the best place for him to be.
"This club offers me everything I need to improve my game," he said. "I've already made great strides and I want to continue getting better and better.
"Obviously, I want to win silverware and I feel City is the best place to fulfil all my ambitions."
Manchester City want Toni Kroos
According to reports in Spain, Toni Kroos wants to play in the Premier League and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is very keen to bring him to the Etihad. This story comes after it became clear that Modric is going to stay in Madrid by signing a new contract with the Merengues.
Chelsea want Saul Niguez
Even though they have been slapped with a transfer ban, which may have ruined their plans, it hasn’t stopped reports coming out and claiming that the Blues have Saul Niguez on their radar.
According to AS, the Londoners we keen on paying the entirety of his release clause, which is €150 million, but the recent transfer ban has put a dent on their plan as Barca now have a free road towards the Spanish midfielder.
