Forward - Alireza Jahanbakhsh (AZ to Brighton & Hove Albion, undisclosed)
Perhaps Strikers were the least transferred in players in the Premier League. No top-tier strikers joined the league or switched teams within the league itself. So, the choice was difficult to select a third forward. I went with Alireza Jahanbakhsh as he had the statistical advantage. Brighton has signed him for an undisclosed amount which has been confirmed to be the Club record fee paid. The previous record was Jose Izquierdo who was bought for £13 million.
Alireza was the top scorer in The Eredivisie 2017-18. He scored 21 goals and became the first Asian player ever to be named the top scorer of a top European league. Alireza's beginnings came in Iranian second division. But he was soon picked up by first division club Damash Gilan. He played 50 games in Iran scoring 11 goals. He moved to Dutch side N.E.C in 2013. NEC was relegated in his first season but secured promotion the following season. He left for AZ. He found his form while playing for AZ and in his 3 seasons for the club, he scored 34 league goals in 85 games.
Alireza has represented Iran on the International level. He was part of the Iranian squad that played the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups. He also played the 2015 Asian Cup for Iran. Alireza has proved to be a prolific goalscorer in his last season in The Netherlands. Amidst interest from several other clubs, Brighton has been lucky to snatch him up. Let's hope he can replicate his Eredivisie success in the Premier League as well.
