Chelsea will look to advance to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup when they take on AFC Bournemouth in their quarterfinal fixture. The Blues will look to continue their fine form after their home victories against Swansea and Newcastle United.
Antonio Conte suggested in his pre-match Conference on Tuesday that, while there will be no heavy changes in the team, it will be different from their Premier League setup.
While Bournemouth should not be taken easily, this game offers a break for important players and thus offers a chance to use the backups and perhaps even the youth.
.
Formation: 3-1-4-2
Line-up:
Caballero is likely to start ahead of Thibaut Courtois in goal at Stamford Bridge on Thursday. Ethan Ampadu, who recently made his Premier League debut as centre-back will be playing alongside Gary Cahill at the back. Dujon Sterling has played one match in the League Cup and is expected to continue at the back for Chelsea in the tie.
Charly Musonda Jr has picked up an injury and is doubtful for the game against AFC Bournemouth. Musonda's 2017 has been defined by injuries - this time a groin problem. So hopefully the new year will bring better luck to this player.
Danny Drinkwater should assume his position as pivot of the midfield. Kenedy could replace Victor Moses while Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoune Bakayako might manage midfield with Zappacosta in wing-back position.
The manager pointed out that players like N’Golo Kante, who has been ever-present since returning from injury, will be rested. Also, Alvaro Morato, who is nursing his back injury, will be given more time to recover, with Batshuayi expected to start the game for Chelsea.
Player who can make his debut :
Callum Hudson-Odoi has been the standout player in the Academy this season for Chelsea. It will be interesting to see if the Chelsea academy product makes his senior debut against Bristol City.
