Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Unai Emery has been appointed as the club's new manager on Tuesday. The 44-year-old was at Sevilla from 2013 and left the La Liga outfit after the end of the 2015-16 season, where he guided them to their third consecutive Europa League success following their 3-1 victory over Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.
The Ligue 1 outfit relieved Laurent Blanc from his duties on Monday and the former Manchester United defender is replaced by Emery, who has signed a two-year contract with the Parc des Princes-based club.
"Paris Saint-Germain is happy to announce the arrival of Unai Emery as the new coach of the club’s first team. The Spanish technician has signed a 2-year contract with the club. His contract includes an option for an additional season," a statement on PSG's official website read.
After penning a contract with the French champions, the former Sevilla boss admitted that he is delighted to become the manager of PSG.
“It is with great pride that I agreed to become the Paris-Saint Germain coach," Emery explained.
"The club has become one of the biggest in Europe over the past few seasons and I am both happy and honoured to be able to help realise its great ambitions.
"I am eager to meet up with my new players as well as the people who work tirelessly every day to help the club grow. I know that an immense fervour exists around the Paris Saint-Germain and I will be giving my best to ensure its millions of fans have a great deal to cheer about.”
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaïfi remains confident that Emery will bring the style of football to PSG that will appeal the fans of the Ligue 1 club.
“I am very happy to welcome Unai Emery as the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Al-Khelaïfi said.
"Unai will bring to the Club all his experience, his passion and his strong management skills and human qualities. He has a proven talent to get the most out of a team. I am convinced that our fans will love the spectacular style of football our team will play with Unai.”
