PSG possible starting XI for Ligue 1 encounter against Reims

Right Winger - Angel Di Maria

Angel Di Maria has been with PSG since 2015, and has started in the right-winger position in more than half of his games with the club. He is back to full fitness now. In the absence of Neymar due to injury, he is the best available option for Pochettino on the right wing for this game.

PSG have 42 goals in the league, just one more than fourth-placed Strasbourg, so they will hope to count on Di Maria's creative ability to provide some spark in the final third. He is one of the leading assist providers in the history of the sport. So he could set up a goal or two against Reims, who have let in just 23 goals in the league thus far (fourth-best defensive record in the league).

He started against Brest, and should retain his place ahead of Xavi Simons, who has made just two appearances this season.

Striker - Mauro Icardi

Mauro Icardi has scored four goals in Ligue 1 this season.

Though Lionel Messi is back in training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to COVID-19, he is expected to start on the bench in this game. That's because he has had just a couple of days to train for this game.

His compatriot Mauro Icardi should be the first-choice striker in this game for PSG. The Argentine led the lineup in the absence of Messi, and should make his third consecutive start in this game.

Icardi has nine starts in the league this season, and has found the back of the net four times. His last goal came against Lorient in a game that ended 1-1. Though he is a capable striker, he has not fit in well at the club so far, though.

Left Winger - Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe has recovered from a thigh injury.

Kylian Mbappe picked up an injury in training, but has been declared fit to face Reims. He has trained well, and is expected to join the full training session ahead of the game.

He is one of the most in-form players in the league this season, outscoring every other PSG player in 2021 by at least 27 goals. His injury scare would've worried Pochettino, as Mbappe scored in the game against Brest. However, the Argentine will be relieved knowing that his best player is available for the game.

Though there might be doubts regarding Mbappe's match fitness, Pochettino can't afford to leave him on the bench against Reims. He might opt to substitute the striker in the second half if PSG are able to seal the game by then.
