The travelling PSV supporters from Eindhoven have decided to unfurl a ‘Get well soon Luke Shaw’ banner at Old Trafford where they face Manchester United in a crunch Champions League fixture on Wednesday, The Guardian reports.
The young United left-back fractured his tibia and fibula when he was at the receiving end of Hector Moreno’s dangerous tackle during the Red Devils’ visit to Eindhoven earlier in the group stage. The injury has sidelined Shaw for a majority of this season.
However, in order to express their sympathy and solidarity towards the English international, PSV fans have decided to take the step.
Manchester United’s twitter handle posted a picture of PSV fans holding the banner in Old Trafford.
Luke Shaw might not be present to watch the banner unfurl
United manager Louis Van Gaal told the media that he had allowed Shaw to not visit the stadium during the game if had wished not to, as he is currently under rehabilitation. As a result of which, the left-back might not be present at the Theater of Dreams to see the banner himself.
“I think Luke is recovering very well but you never know with an injury like that,” Van Gaal said.
“One bad week can be all it takes to put you months behind schedule.”
“I think he is dealing with the situation well but now he has become a little bit fed up with the daily routine, so because of that, and also because of the PSV game, I gave him four days off.”
“I thought that was perhaps why he was fed up, the thought of having to watch the PSV game with his colleagues. So he can have some time off, then on Friday he has a scan and we learn more about how the injury is going.”
The Dutch manager refused to blame Hector Moreno for the injury and said that football is a contact sport and injuries are bound to happen.
“I have said many times that it was not his purpose. In football, it can happen. It is a resistance sport and it is not the first time somebody is injured with a broken leg, but it is still a loss for us all the same.”
Earlier, Moreno himself stated that he visited Shaw in the hospital and the ex-Southampton player himself did not blame the Mexican.
“What happened to Shaw was very unfortunate,” Moreno said.
“I was just in shock. I’m glad I was able to go speak to him. I went with Phillip Cocu to the hospital.”
“That was very difficult at the beginning, but he was very kind to me and didn’t blame me. He had seen the images and said it was part of football. That made me smile.”
