Defending Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven host Manchester United in the first Group B match in the Champions League on Tuesday night. PSV were seeded in Pot 1 this season after they won the Eredivisie title last season while United were in Pot 2 after they finished fourth in the Premier League last season. This is a comeback of sorts for the Red Devils who failed to qualify for the 2014/15 Champions League.
Team News
Manchester United will be without their main striker and captain Wayne Rooney after he was ruled out with a hamstring injury. The England international had also missed the derby clash with Liverpool when United won 3-1 with 19-year-old Anthony Martial scoring on his debut. Van Gaal could play him up front instead of Marouane Fellaini who failed to impress in the outing at Old Trafford. He also has James Wilson to call upon as the 19-year-old travelled with the squad.
Morgan Schneiderlin did not start the game against Liverpool and Van Gaal would be looking to bring him back into the lineup with either Michael Carrick or Bastian Schweinsteiger dropping to the bench. Memphis Depay will be expected to start against his old club, for whom he scored 28 goals in all competitions this season.
PSV manager Philip Cocu will be looking to bring back Jetro Willems, but he remains doubtful with a knee injury. Meanwhile, Luuk de Jong would be crucial to PSV’s hopes at home having already scored five goals in the league this season.
Live telecast and Kickoff
The match kicks off at 12:15 AM IST on Wednesday (7:45 PM BST and 8:45 PM local time) at Philips Stadion. The match will be telecast live on Ten Sports.

Prediction
This is the first time Manchester United are meeting PSV Eindhoven in 15 years. With Depay now in the opposing team, United will be looking to get back into the Champions League scheme of things with a win. However, Philip Cocu will be looking to target Daley Blind, United’s biggest weakness in defence, especially with Luuk De Jong in such fine form at the start of the season.
Predicted score: PSV Eindhoven 1-1 Manchester United
Betting odds (bet 365)
