Puma wants to cut down the weight of its football boot lineup. Puma launched evoSPEED SL Camo in June 2015. On July 5, 2015, Puma released the superlight version of King II – the King II SL. King II SL weighs around 180g and (you guessed it right!) is lighter than King II. A whole 90g lighter.
Black/Yellow is the launch colorway. The design pattern on the upper is stunning. It manages to stay with the roots of Puma design. Black is the main color while the yellow covers the heel area, outsole and the cage. On either sides of the boot, we see the iconic Puma Formstripe.
The SL version of the boot combines legendary design with modern technology. Outcome is as you expected, amazing. Let us take a closer look at King II SL football boots.
It features kangaroo leather upper. This ensures supreme fit along with unparalleled levels of comfort. To keep the weight down, Puma made the kangaroo leather of the upper as thin as possible. Kevlar fibers all over the upper minimizes the irritation levels. Along with this, the premium leather upper and the Kevlar fibers aids in natural ball control.
The first-touch should be amazing. Like many other modern football boots, King II SL also features an external heel counter for stability. The best part is the King II SL features premium K-leather and still only weighs 180g. This shoe while having a leather upper is lighter than many football shoes. It is lighter than Nike’s Hypervenom Phantom II.
The shoe boats Puma’s iconic everFIT lacing system in the midfoot area for added support. The acceleration levels of this shoe are unmatched when compared with the actual King II.
The soleplate of Puma King II SL is identical to the soleplate of the actual King II. Not a lot of changes here. The Pebax outsole along with nylon studs not only ensures amazing traction levels. It also helps in keeping the weight of the shoe to a minimum. The lockdown is exceptional; maneuverability should not be a problem with this shoe.
Just like evoSPEED SL, the King II SL feature unique stud pattern combining both conical and triangular studs for increased levels of acceleration and rotational agility. This unique stud pattern achieves ideal pressure distribution that ensures support to crucial areas of the foot.
The King II SL is available for both firm ground (FG) and soft grass (SG) surfaces. The FG version is best suited for dry, natural grass while the SG version best suits the wet or damp playing surfaces. The SG version features removable conical studs along with molded studs for a faultless balance between flexibility and traction on SG surfaces.
King II SL retails at a price of £160 i.e., around 16,000INR and is available with select online retailers.
Bottom-line: The King joins the SL family.
