Robert Green's career at QPR has hit a bit of a snag, the former English number one still is part of the side but is rarely selected in the match-day squads or even is part of the training conducted for the first team.
He quite possible is one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship but his luck with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side selection hasn't been the best.
Green is still paid to be part of the QPR team but when the team is announced for the next game, the goalkeeper is excluded from the list due to financial issues.
Not enough money to play Green
The goalkeeper did speak about a bizarre condition with his team if he did make 30 appearances for the club this season, he would get a contract extension beyond June. The London side were happy to have Green in the squad last summer and were looking forward to the deal but things have not gone right for the side.
It has become clear that QPR will not be making it to the Premier League next season and when Robert made his 25th appearance for the side in January, that would be his last.
"When I sat down with them in the summer I said this is the one position I didn't want to find myself in and here we are," says Green, speaking to Sportsmail.
"It is frustrating, to put it mildly. Leaving in the summer was something that could have happened. I discussed it at length with (director of football) Les Ferdinand.
"It was something that could happen and financially it would have helped the club. I was happy to walk away. But the owners made a call that they wanted me to stay. They knew I had this clause but they had the desire to get back into the Premier League."
Green could have left to join various clubs last summer but stayed at QPR in hopes of making it to the Premier League with a club that he holds dear.
Manager ins and outs at QPR
Green was signed by Mark Hughes, the current Stoke City manager, in 2012 but the goalkeeper has had to deal with instability by playing under six caretaker and three other managers.
"Neil Warnock became the manager towards the end of last year and on his first day he pulled me to one side and said, 'You do realise you won't make that 30 games?' I thought, 'I've been told otherwise but I can hazard a guess as to why that might now be the case'. I wasn't naive.
"Then Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink spoke to me soon after he arrived. He said, 'Look, it's nothing personal but because of budgets and things you're not going to make the 30 games.'"
QPR are currently 11th in the Championship and barring a miracle they won't be able to make it into the playoffs either. It is a sad indictment for a club that was in the Premier League a few years ago.
The side is bankrolled by Tony Fernandes but has had to deal with the Financial Fair Play rules with the Football League regarding overspending. Fernandes and other shareholders had even written off 60 million pounds in loans a year ago.
