Robert Green saved Alexis Sanchez’s penalty last night in the match between Arsenal and Queens Park Rangers, thanks to some help from his teammate Eduardo Vargas. The save although very crucial did not help Rangers get something from the encounter, as they went on to lose 2-1 despite Olivier Giroud's sending-off early in the second half.
Now saving a penalty requires a combination of luck, skill and the ability to hold one's nerve. Added to all that, Green had the benefit of some inside knowledge too as he had been informed as to which side to expect the shot, as he prepared to face Alexis Sanchez, who stepped up to take the penalty.
Sanchez's national teammate and good friend, Eduardo Vargas, who plays as a striker for Queens Park Rangers, pointed to the right side of the goal (from the penalty taker’s point of view), telling Robert Green that Sanchez would shoot in that direction. Vargas’ piece of information was correct as Green went to his left and was able to save the penalty.
The Arsenal forward’s penalty secret was revealed by Vargas, who had had the benefit of playing and training with Sanchez for Chile, and hence knew the where and how his friend would take the spot-kick.

The match also saw two more dubious penalty calls – the first one saw QPR awarded one for this supposed foul by Debuchy on Junior Hoilett, but as replays showed, the Frenchman clearly won the ball, while Hoilett went to ground looking for the penalty.
On the other hand, deep into injury time, the away team should have had another penalty, this time a legitimate one as Bobby Zamora was fouled from behind by Kieran Gibbs. However, the referee failed to spot it and Arsenal escaped a possibly sticky situation.
