Chelsea‘s chase of Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao has been one of the transfer rumours of the season so far. Chelsea had been linked with a move for him when AVB came into the club but that never materialised. It sprung up again back in the summer, but nothing happened, and the rumour intensified as Falcao literally took Chelsea apart in the Super Cup in Monaco back at the start of the season.
It’s no secret that Roman Abramovich wants him at the club, and there is plenty of rumour and speculation going about that he is willing to match Atletico’s minimum fee release clause, rumoured to be around £45m. In addition to this, there are even rumours that Falcao is taking English lessons ahead of a proposed move.
Now, the deal looks in jeopardy as Falcao’s missus has spoken out, suggesting that she isn’t having anything to do with a move to London. Pregnant with their first child, Falcao’s partner Lorelei Tarón has come out and said:
“The baby will be born in Spain. We are not moving. Our doctor is here, we are very happy.
Madrid is a city that I am in love with and Radamel is very happy here.”
I think we all know that once her indoors speak, that’s it, and it seemed as though the deal was dead in the water until this week, when it has again appeared that Chelsea have decided to up the ante!
Thibaut Courtois is now being touted as a makeweight to Atletico as part of the deal. As we know, he has been there for two seasons now on loan, and has made his intentions clear – he wants first team football next season.
Now, I can’t see Chelsea giving him that at all after Petr Cech signed a new contract recently, so it makes sense to include him as part of the deal. The problem is the situation with Falcao and his family. It’s all well and good for Atletico to want to go ahead with the deal and take Courtois in return, but the player has to agree to the same.
The 27-year old striker would be a great addition to the Blues and would signal our intentions as we look to bounce back next season and mount a challenge for the Premier League trophy.
Time to talk her round Radamel!
