Moyes is set to receive yet another setback in his bit to add some quality to his team, as Manchester United target Ivan Rakitic has announced that he has decided to stay in Seville for now. The Croatian midfielder was coveted by a whole host of clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool and the news that he is set to stay in Spain will come as a blow to all those concerned.
The 25-year-old Croatian midfielder has been in the spotlight this season, as he has been one of the stars of the season so far. Ever since taking over as captain of the side, his performances have gone through the roof and his undoubted quality is finally being fulfilled. But, the Croatian international insisted he is more than happy in Spain and is likely to remain there for the immediate future.
The persistent rumors linking him to a whole host of clubs, should come as no surprise, as he is currently enjoying his most productive season in Sevilla yet. Rakitic has been nothing short of phenomenal in the League thus far this season and his eight goals in 16 league appearances is a testament to just that. Not content with just scoring goals, the versatile central midfielder, who is more than capable of playing as both an offensive and defensive game, also has six assists to his name, making him doubly dangerous.
Unfortunately for Moyes, the 25-year-old seems to have made up his mind and said “For the time being, I only think about Sevilla.” He added that “I have important matches ahead of me and additional responsibilities as captain of the team, so leaving is not something I’m considering now.”
Whilst it is true that he has made his opinion clear on this matter, he failed to rule out the possibility of him following in the footsteps of former Sevilla teammates Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Gary Medel and going to England. Regarding the future, Rakitic said “Anything is possible.”
He went onto say that “family is now the most important thing to me and it will have a key role in all my future professional decisions.” So, Moyes might just be able to persuade the Croat in the summer, and all might not be lost.
