To compare how far he has come in just a season, Wirtz scored only five goals and registered six assists in 29 matches during the 2020-21 season. This more or less justifies his third spot on the list of the world's best midfielders currently.

Operating mainly as an attacking midfielder, the 18-year-old has made 2.6 key passes every 90 minutes this season - 10th most of all the midfielders in Europe's top five leagues.
Wirtz's consistency can be highlighted by the fact that he has had a goal contribution in each of his seven Bundesliga appearances this season. In the Europa League this season, the youngster has two goals, one each in both the matches that he has started.
