#3 Gonzalo Higuain (three-time La Liga winner) - 64 goals
Gonzalo Higuain enjoyed a prolific spell in La Liga almost a decade ago. The 34-year-old scored a century of goals in almost 200 games in the competition for Real Madrid during the late 2000s and early 2010s.
The three-time La Liga winner scored at least ten times in five of his seven seasons in the Spanish top flight. Higuain enjoyed his most prolific campaign in 2009-10, scoring 27 goals. However, Real Madrid were pipped to the La Liga title by Barcelona.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup finalist scored 22 times in Real Madrid's triumphant 2011-12 La Liga campaign. Higuain also enjoyed a successful stint in Serie A later in his career.
#2 Lionel Messi (all-time La Liga top-scorer) - 67 goals
Lionel Messi is the all-time La Liga top scorer (474 goals) by a proverbial country mile. Widely regarded as the best player of all time, the ten-time La Liga winner enjoyed a hugely successful stint in the Spanish top flight.
In 17 La Liga seasons, Messi amassed close to 500 goals, and won a record eight Pichichi awards. He had already racked up over 50 league goals by the time he turned 23. Messi was the crown jewel of a brilliant Barcelona team in the late 2000s and early 2010s, especially under Pep Guardiola.
Among a slew of other records Messi holds in the competition, he has scored the most La Liga hat-tricks (36) and is the only one to score 50 times in a season (2011-12).
#1 Sergio Aguero - 70 goals
Sergio Aguero made a blistering start to his La Liga career, amassing 70 goals before turning 23.
Manchester City's all-time top scorer did that in the late 2000s when he first emerged on the scene. Although a La Liga title eluded him in his first five seasons in the competition, Aguero left a lasting impression as a goalscorer of fearsome ability.
Back in the competition with Barcelona this summer after almost a decade, Aguero opened his La Liga account for the season against Real Madrid.
However, the 33-year-old attacker has since been diagnosed with a heart condition. It has been widely reported that he may have played his last professional game, despite no official confirmation from the player or club yet.
