#3 Real Madrid
The Champions League has been brutally dominated by Real Madrid ever since its introduction. Having won it 13 times to date, Los Blancos are the team to beat each season in the tournament.
They were the first team to win the competition consecutively, winning it thrice in a row and then four trophy wins in five seasons. With the Spanish giants qualifying for the tournament 47 times, no team has managed to participate more in the tournament.
Real Madrid have so far played 458 matches and won 273 out of them, winning the most number of fixtures in the competition's history. Out of 273 wins, 18 have come in the round of 16 for Los Blancos.
#2 Bayern Munich
The Bavarian club have been a massive force in the Bundesliga and remain one of the strongest teams in the Champions League. Bayern Munich have won the competition six times in their history.
Having played 368 matches in the tournament, the German club have participated in it 34 times. Bayern have generally done pretty well in the knockout stages and getting past the round of 16 hasn't been that difficult a task for them.
Out of their 220 wins in the tournament, 19 have come in the round of 16. With their star-studded squad this season, Bayern Munich should be considered one of the favorites to win the competition.
#1 Barcelona
The situation right now at Barcelona is not a pretty one. Ever since Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain in last summer's transfer window, things haven't got any better for the Catalan club.
Barcelona were knocked out of the group stages of the Champions League this season, following a 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. It is the first time since the 2000-01 season that the Spanish giants have failed to make it to the round of 16 of the tournament.
They have participated in the Champions League 28 times so far, playing 333 matches in the process. Barcelona have registered 195 wins in total so far, out of which 21 have come in the round of 16. Despite them not being in the tournament's round of 16, their ranking on this list will remain unbeaten for the next season at least.
Their current form in La Liga does not help them either as they sit fifth in the league table right now. To qualify for the Champions League next season, Barcelona will require an extraordinary effort from their players.
