#3 Kai Havertz
With Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner still out with injuries, Kai Havertz started up front for Chelsea. The German won the penalty for the Blues but was unable to find the back of the net – as he did against Southampton in the Carabao Cup during the week.
However, he was not missing in the game and was a part of almost all the attacks by Chelsea. He drifted wide to link up with the wingers or waited in the box for the crosses when the wing-backs were charging forward.
He had a good outing at St. James' Park with 77% pass success, two aerial duels, and five shots at goal.
#2 Jorginho
Jorginho was touted to win the Ballon d'Or this year and he showed exactly why. The Italian was commanding midfield and dictating the play for Chelsea from the start.
The former Napoli star was captaining the side today with Cesar Azpilicueta on the bench. He was instrumental in Chelsea keeping the ball and not letting Newcastle United counter as they planned.
Jorginho was always available for the pass and was slotting into spaces between the Newcastle defense and midfield, making it difficult for them to get close to him. His pass was on point and should have got an assist too, but Hakim Ziyech's goal was ruled out in the first half as he was offside.
The Italian ended the game with 91% pass success, two tackles and two shots on target – including a powerful penalty right down the middle.
#1 Reece James
Chelsea's wing-backs are the ones getting them the goals this season and Reece James was on show today. The Englishman stole the limelight and helped the Blues leave St. James' Park with all three points.
Reece was on top of his game today and could hardly put a foot wrong. He was available in attack at all times and was ready to cover things up whenever Newcastle United got the ball to try to counter.
The goals today made Reece Chelsea's top scorer this season, with four – just three behind last season's top scorer Jorginho's tally. With the former Wigan loanee doing extremely well at RWB, Thomas Tuchel can now let Callum Hudson-Odoi play in his favorite left-wing position and also use Cesar Azpilicueta only when needed.
Reece's man-of-the-match performance saw him have 95% pass success, four shots on goal and two cracking goals!
