But being a goalkeeper, in a world where the custodians and defence is regarded as much less popular than the goal scorers, he is unlikely to be in the final 3 of Ballon d’Or 2018.

He is valued at 58.5 million pounds and comes up at no. 20 in our list.

The only Slovenian footballer in the list of 30-man shortlist of Ballon d’Or 2018, Jan Oblak, is valued at 63 million pounds. Presently playing for Atletico Madrid as the custodian, Oblak is just 25 years old and has years left in his career to be a future Ballon d’Or winner.

It would not be a surprise if you would see Jan Oblak emerge as a Ballon d’Or winner in the future years, provided Goalkeepers are considered with more recognition, which they deserve.

Sadio Mane is the only nominee in the 30-man shortlist of Ballon d’Or 2018 apart from Mohammed Salah to be from the African Continent. The Senegal left winger playing for Liverpool FC, also alongside Salah, is valued at 63 million pounds.

It is refreshing to have African footballers in the line-up of Ballon d’Or 2018, as it makes the coveted trophy truly a recognition of worldwide football.
