Having Alan Shearer play in the black-and-white stripes is perhaps one of Newcastle United's greatest achievements. The Englishman was absolutely menacing, no matter whichever club he played for.
A career that wasn't as much illustrious as it should have been, the Gosforth-born striker is a living tribute to the art of scoring goals. With a robust build that helped him to hold the ball against tougher defenders, Shearer was devastating in front of goal.
Surely everyone remembers the deadly Sutton-Shearer combination? The legend played an instrumental part as Blackburn clinched their first and only Premier League title. Shearer dazzled the supporters in every single game he played that season, scoring 31 goals in the process.
An incredible stat in his goalscoring record for Newcastle speaks so much about his love for headers. Of the 206 goals he netted for the Tyneside, Shearer nodded the ball 49 times over the goal line.
The Englishman's legend would have been entirely different, had he opted for joining the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal. Those giants would certainly have filled his trophy cabinet, but the love for his boyhood club prevailed over anything else.
Regardless of the scarcity of trophies, Shearer's goal-scoring exploits have done enough to elevate him to the highest echelons of the English top-tier.
