#3 Paul Scholes
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is widely revered as one of the greatest midfielders the world has ever seen, and for good reason. The Englishman was the brightest midfielder in the Premier League during his time with Manchester United. He had the ability to dominate the middle of the pitch against even the best of teams. He passed eloquently, scored emphatically, and had the vision to pick out his team-mates from miles out.
Scholes opened his United tally with a brace on his debut against Port Vale in the 1994 League Cup and only built on the legacy until deciding to retire at the end of the 2010/11 season. Despite officially retiring, Scholes continued to train with the reserves and eventually re-signed for United in 2012. He made his second debut in a 3-2 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup.
After adding 42 more appearances and five goals to his tally, he finally hung up his boots at the end of the 2012/13 season.
#2 Paul Pogba
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba may not be regarded as a Manchester United legend yet, but he is undoubtedly one of the best midfielders in the world right now. Like many academy graduates, Paul Pogba was not given the nod right away and had to invent himself at another club. Pogba took the apparent rejection as an opportunity to grow and turn himself into one of the best footballers at Juventus.
After four successful seasons at Juventus, Manchester United came calling for their academy graduate and signed him for €105 million plus bonuses in the summer of 2016.
Just like that, he became the most expensive re-signing in the history of football. Pogba is currently one of the first names on the team sheet and regularly pitches in with goals and assists.
#1 Cristiano Ronaldo
It has been officially confirmed: Cristiano Ronaldo has left Serie A side Juventus and is returning to Manchester United. Ronaldo, who is the leading scorer of this generation, does not need an introduction. He has won five Ballons d’Or, has five UEFA Champions League trophies to his name, and has bagged league titles in England, Spain, and Italy.
Signed from Sporting CP, Cristiano Ronaldo became the most expensive teenager in English football in 2003. The boy from Madeira had dazzling feet, was freakishly quick, and was determined to create a legacy at Manchester United. Between 2003 and 2009, that is exactly what he did.
Ronaldo helped Manchester United to three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and a UEFA Champions League trophy, which eventually earned him his first Ballon d’Or in 2008. The 36-year-old is yet to play the first game of his second spell, but we are already confident of the impact he is going to have.
