Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the UEFA Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday, October 23. The Reds are now second in the UCL league phase table with nine points from three matches.

Coming off their 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League, Arne Slot made three changes to the side. Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, and Kostas Tsimikas replaced Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, and Andy Robertson.

The hosts started the game well and created a few chances, but were unable to find the back of the net. Liverpool slowly gained control of the affair and took the lead through Nunez in the 27th minute. The Uruguayan forward was in the right place to poke home after being set up by a header from Mohamed Salah.

The game opened up in the second half as the hosts pushed forward to find an equaliser. Caoimhin Kelleher was called into action, making a few great saves while the offside flag also denied the German side on two occasions. At the other end, the Reds came close to doubling their advantage, but were unable to do so.

Leipzig are yet to pick up a point and fell to 31st in the league phase table. Here are the player ratings for Liverpool:

Liverpool Player Ratings

Caoimhin Kelleher - 7.5/10

The Irishman continues to impress in Alisson's absence and is probably among the best reserve keepers in European football. He did well to deny Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko in the second half with two great saves, finishing with six saves overall.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6.5/10

Alexander-Arnold seems to have improved his performances on the defensive side of the ball in recent times, yet again producing a solid outing on that end. Against Leipzig, however, he lacked his usual threat going forward, failing to create a single chance.

Ibrahima Konate - 6.5/10

A composed outing from the Frenchman, remaining error-free and helping Liverpool keep another clean sheet.

Virgil van Dijk - 7/10

Van Dijk was probably the Reds' best defender on the night. The Dutchman was a huge presence at the back, hardly putting a foot wrong all game, and even came close to scoring with a header from a corner.

Kostas Tsimikas - 6.5/10

He had a solid game stepping in for Robertson, with his crosses and corners proving to be deadly. It was one of those crosses aimed for Salah that led to the goal.

Ryan Gravenberch - 7/10

While it looked like Leipzig exerted greater control over the middle of the park at times, Gravenberch put in a good performance at the base of midfield. His contributions on and off the ball remain key for Liverpool as he finished with 10 passes into the final third, a 95% pass completion rate (60/63), five duels won, two tackles, and two blocks.

Alexis Mac Allister - 6.5/10

Back into the side after starting on the bench for the fixture against Chelsea due to injury, the Argentine midfielder had a decent outing. He was reliable with the ball in midfield and also rattled the woodwork with a long-distance effort.

Dominik Szoboszlai - 6/10

He put in the hard yards but once again failed to have an impact in attack. He has just one goal and three assists in 11 games this season and Slot may be expecting more from him on that front.

Mohamed Salah - 6.5/10

Salah bagged the assist for the solitary goal on the night and didn't do much else before being taken off in the second half.

Darwin Nunez - 7/10

Jota's injury against Chelsea meant Nunez started after a decent 60-minute outing against the Blues. He was in the right place for a simple finish to open the scoring and was impressive overall.

Cody Gakpo - 7/10

While Luis Diaz was Slot's preferred option on the left flank early in the season, he has seemingly shifted to Cody Gakpo, who has now started the last three games in a row. He was a real threat down the left flank, finishing with four shots, four chances created, three passes into the final third, and six touches in the opposition box.

Substitutes

Luis Diaz - 6/10

He came on to provide Salah some respite but did not offer much in his 30-minute cameo.

Curtis Jones, Andrew Robertson, and Joe Gomez - N/A

The trio came on late and helped Liverpool close out the game, but did not play enough minutes to merit a rating.
