Manchester United Player Ratings vs. RB Leipzig

Manchester United didn't perform well in Germany.

David De Gea - 5/10

De Gea could have done nothing to stop either of the first two Leipzig goals. He should have done better than to turn his back away from the striker when Kluivert scored past him.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 3/10

Wan-Bissaka had a terrible game. He was caught too far in-field, and too close to Lindelof. That gave Angelino the space he needed to operate on the left flank.

Victor Lindelof - 5/10

None of the three goals that Manchester United conceded came off a mistake from Lindelof. But he needed to take charge, and ensure that the likes of Olmo and Forsberg didn't impact the game too much for RB Leipzig.

Harry Maguire - 4/10

Ultimately, Maguire cost United the goal that sent them out of the competition. He should have either dealt with that cross himself, or communicated well enough with De Gea to get the Spaniard to claim that ball. Maguire just left it, when De Gea was not expecting him to.

Luke Shaw - 5/10

In his first game back from injury, Shaw played as the left-sided centre-back in the first half. He had no understanding with Telles and was constantly making last-ditch interventions to clean up previous misses.

Alex Telles - 4/10

Telles had to be tracking Haidara for the second Leipzig goal, but didn't get his head to the ball, which allowed an easy finish.

Nemanja Matic - 4/10

The speed of Leipzig's passing and movement meant that Manchester United struggled in midfield. The intensity was not ideal for Matic, who was always a fraction of a second behind with his challenges.

Scott McTominay - 4/10

Like Matic, McTominay didn't have any impact on the game either. He was a nuisance in the box when Manchester United had set-pieces, but from open play, both offensively and defensively, McTominay struggled.

Bruno Fernandes - 5/10

For most of the game, Fernandes cut a frustrated figure and was whining to the referee about a host of things. He dispatched his penalty with ease, as he always seems to do.

Mason Greenwood - 5/10

United really struggled to get Greenwood into good attacking positions throughout the game, which meant that his threat was almost non-existent.

Marcus Rashford - 5/10

Rashford had an isolated game up-front for Manchester United, as the Red Devils could not get him involved as much as they'd have liked. When he did get his chances, he seemed to rush into taking the shot a bit too early.

Substitutes

Donny van de Beek - 7/10

The Dutchman replaced Telles at half-time, and made a visible difference to Manchester United's play. He was the link between the Manchester United lines, and allowed the likes of Fernandes a lot more possession.

Paul Pogba - 8/10

Pogba was magnificent after coming on to replace Matic. He controlled possession brilliantly, allowed the flair players to create chances in the final third, and even got a goal himself. The goal, though, was eventually given to Maguire,

Brandon Williams - 5/10

Williams came on to replace Shaw, with the latter still recovering from a month-long injury worry.

Axel Tuanzebe - N/A

He really didn't play for enough time to warrant a rating.

TImothy Fosu-Mensah - N/A

It was curious that Solskjaer swapped out two defenders for like-for-like replacements when Manchester United were desperate to find a goal at the end of the game.
