Real Madrid were hammered 4-0 by arch-rivals Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu in LaLiga on Saturday, October 26. The result sees Barca move six points clear at the top of the table with 30 points, while Los Blancos remain second with 24 points after 11 games apiece.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona made electric starts to the contest as the visitors kept the ball for extended spells during the first half. They also created more chances, but saw themselves go a goal down after 30 minutes as Kylian Mbappe put Los Blancos ahead. However, the goal was later ruled out due to offside as Barca were spared their blushes.
With just one other attempt in the first half, Real Madrid struggled for opportunities, while Barcelona kept knocking on the door as they created one chance after another. Marc Casado's booking late in the first half was the last bit of action in a nail-biting contest as the two Spanish giants entered the break deadlocked at 0-0.
The second half saw the game burst into life. Robert Lewandowski grabbed the go-ahead goal for Barcelona in the 54th minute after an assist from Marc Casado. The Pole was on target with a glancing header just two minutes later as he turned Alejandro Balde's cross into the net for his team's second goal as Real Madrid were left shellshocked.
Mbappe then had another goal disallowed for offside, while Lewandowski missed multiple attempts to bag his hat-trick. However, Barcelona continued to create the bulk of the chances and scored a third goal via Lamine Yamal in the 77th minute. Raphinha assisted that goal and then grabbed one for himself in the 84th minute as Hansi Flick's men secured a famous win.
Real Madrid were left to ruminate about missed opportunities and lick their wounds after a damaging defeat. On that note, let's have a look at their player ratings from this match.
