#1 Karim Benzema's 5-star performance
Karim Benzema's first-half goals put the game fairly out of Levante's reach. In Gareth Bale's absence and Eden Hazard starting from the bench, Benzema had the goalscoring onus in a front three consisting of him, Lucas Vazquez, and Vinicius Junior.
While Vinicius was wasteful with his chances, Benzema converted the chances that he received. He made the late run in-between Levante's center backs to slot in the first goal when no one else did. He fought for possession after Marcelo's long ball with Postigo and forced him to head the ball away hastily towards James Rodriguez- who threaded a through ball for Benzema.
With his two goals, Benzema has now scored 19 goals in 2019, only behind Kylian Mbappe and the obvious name of Lionel Messi - both having scored 21 goals each.
Benzema's performance was important in establishing the lead and it is the reason Madrid gained momentum in the game.
