The tussle for the La Liga title is wide open right now with the top three going neck to neck as we are done with more than half of the journey this season. It has been a two way race between Real Madrid and Barcelona for the past few years to win the league but this year has been an exception or rather different ,to be more precise, as Atletico Madrid have also joined the party and that too, very firmly. They defeated the Blancos in their own backyard in the Madrid derby this season before drawing with Barcelona.
Talking about the current standings in Liga, Real are sitting on top with a clear three point lead and a very good goal difference too. While Barcelona and Atletico share the second spot with former edging on goal difference.
Earlier in the season, Real were not at their supreme best thanks to their inconsistency which saw them slip to third place with a huge gap of 5 points to the joint leaders. Both Barca and Atletico enjoyed a long unbeaten run in the early stages of the competition which made them instant favourites to win the title. But then it was a turnaround for the Ancelloti’s men after their infamous defeat to their city rivals at Bernabeu.
Los Blancos are currently riding a spectacular 26 match unbeaten streak which includes 22 wins and just four draws in all competitions. They are yet to lose a game this year and this rare success has given them everything they want. They are through to the El Clasico finale for the Copa Del Rey plus the remarkable run to their Champions league last 16 as well, not to mention their top spot in Liga.
While recently Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have been underperforming, Real have been the side to rise up and deliver and they have shown their actual potential that lacked somewhat under Mourinho last season. They have gained that extra motivation with experienced Carlo Ancelloti and the results have been as desired so far.
Their arsenal looks complete this time with players like Gareth Bale, Jese Rodriguez, Luka Modric and Angel Di Maria performing with the ever reliable Cristiano Ronaldo already firing all guns.
It is a golden opportunity for Real Madrid to have a shot on the elusive treble which would certainly affirm their claim to be the best in Europe. Looking at their current form, only they can stop themselves from achieving this prestigious feat this season.
It will be very interesting to see what happens at the end of the season but one thing is pretty sure; the Blancos have been the top team in Spain this season thus far.
Well, at least the stats say so!
