Footballers can be extremely serious and intense characters on the field. Off the field though, they can also be very thoughtful and helpful human beings. One of the latest examples of a sportsman displaying his human side was demonstrated by Portugal and Real Madrid defender Pepe.
In an extremely thoughtful gesture, the 31-year-old centre-back bought 9000 kilos of food and made the payment for them out of his pocket.
To add to that, Pepe also helped in distributing the food among the underprivileged families in the Las Rozas neighbourhood of Madrid, where he currently resides. The reason was Pepe to buy food for the people of the locality was to ensure that they had a very Merry Christmas.
The Portuguese is known for his hot-headedness and has a reputation as a tough tackler being a regular name on the referee’s book but this act just goes to show how footballers can be so different when they’re off the pitch.
The defender has won 2 La liga titles and a Champions League medal during his time at the Madrid club.
A Twitter user Ana Davila, who in the department of Health, Family and Children in Las Rozas shared tweeted images of Pepe delivering the supplies.
