Manchester United and Chelsea have missed out on one of their long term transfer targets after Spanish giants Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of German international Toni Kroos, report the Mirror.
The 24-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder has penned a four-year contract with the Champions League winners, bringing months of speculation surrounding his future to an end. Kroos had been targeted by Chelsea and Man United, according to reports.
Kroos had just one year remaining on his current deal with the Bundesliga outfit and manager Pep Guardiola has opted to cash in on the unsettled pass master rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
The news will undoubtedly come as a blow to United, who had earmakred the central midfielder as the man to reassert the drive tthat was visibly lacking from their side last season.
However, Los Blancos have secured one of the most promising midfielders in world football and Kroos will now vie for a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s side with Xabi Alonso and Luka Modric.
Calm in possession, with outstanding passing ability and a delicious technique when striking the ball, Kroos is a valuable addition to the Spaniards’ contingent of talent.
Meanwhile, Kroos’ arrival could spell the end of his countryman Sami Khedira’s stint at the Bernabeu, with Arsenal amongts the parties interested in his signature.
Toni Kroos currently has a passing accuracy of 92% at the World Cup.
