What’s the story?
Real Madrid have already agreed on a deal with Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea according to latest reports in Spanish publication Marca. Los Blancos have been linked with the Spaniard for a long time, but it seems that a deal has finally been agreed with a transfer fee reported to be around £60 million. The report also went on to claim that De Gea will receive a massive long-term contract of close to 5-6 years.
The move came to fruition when the Spanish goalkeeper reportedly told his employers that he wishes to leave the club three weeks ago before the game against Sunderland which saw him dropped for the match. Mourinho at that time tried to downplay the situation saying:
“I’m not interested in talking about speculation, I don’t think he should be interested in talking about it either. We’re playing against very important teams, every game is crucial and I don’t see that David is having any problems with this.
“The end of the season is the time when players can think about what will happen to their careers.”
It looks like De Gea has decided about his future slightly before the end of the season.
In case you didn’t know...
Real Madrid almost managed to sign the 26-year-old in 2015, but a famous delay due to a fax machine meant that Los Blancos missed out on an opportunity to sign the youngster. However, this time around, Real Madrid chiefs are determined to tie up the deal early and with personal terms reportedly being agreed, it seems like only a matter of time before the former Atletico Madrid keeper makes his way to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Also, with Keylor Navas not having the best of campaigns, Zidane will be desperate to complete the paperwork for this deal as soon as possible.
The heart of the matter
With the transfer ban over Real Madrid having been lifted, Los Blancos are determined to sign the best stars in world football in the summer transfer window. Stars like Eden Hazard and Kylian Mbappe have been heavily linked and now with reports of this deal being done as well, Florentino Perez is on his way to building another squad of galacticos.
What’s next?
While there has been intense speculation about the summer transfer activity of both Real Madrid and Manchester United, the clubs will do well to ignore all the rumours flying around and focus on finishing the season strongly. Both United and Madrid will be hoping to end this campaign with some trophies.

Author’s take
Real Madrid have held an interest in David de Gea since a long time and Los Blancos seldom miss out on their targets. With plenty of publications reporting that a deal has been agreed, we might in all likelihood see De Gea between the sticks for Real Madrid next season.
