Karim Benzema has ruled out a transfer to Arsenal, insisting “I’m thinking only of Madrid” – as reported by The Express.
With mounting speculation that Florentino Pérez has pinpointed Liverpool’s Luis Suarez as Los Blancos’ prime transfer target this summer, Benzema has been linked with a move to the Premier League, as Los Blancos look to assemble one of the most fearsome attacking trios (Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez) in the history of the game.
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger is said to be in the market for a dominant centre-forward, having spent the majority of last season with only one senior striker in Olivier Giroud.
However, Benzema is adamant that he’ll remain a Real Madrid player next season, rubbishing media claims to the contrary:
He said: “The media can say what they want. I have a contract.
“I’m in Madrid and if I can stay all my life in Madrid, I will. I came here to win titles. If it depended on me, I would stay here forever. I don’t want to go anywhere.
“My extension? I hope to reach agreement with Real Madrid. There is no other club like this one.
“Every year I feel better. I’m thinking only of Madrid. I’m happy here with my family.”
Speaking on rumours that French team-mate Raphael Varane could reuinited with former boss Jose Mourino at Chelsea, Benzema said he expects the 21-year-old to honour his contract at stay at the Bernabéu.
He said: “Did the final of the Champions League gave him confidence? Of course.
“If Varane continues the way he has been going, in one or two years he will be the best central defender in the world.
“Departure to Chelsea? I have not discussed this with him, but I think he will stay.”
