Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his birthday despite Los Blancos’ humiliating defeat in the Madrid derby and it hasn’t gone down well with a lot of Real Madrid players and staff, according to reports. Real lost 4-0 to city rivals Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon and the defeat cut their lead at the top of the table to just one point and leaves Barcelona breathing down their neck closely followed by Atletico.
Ronaldo, who was lacklustre in Saturday’s match, drew further criticism after pictures and videos of the Portugal star celebrating his 30th birthday soon after the match came out on social media.
Casillas and Ramos unhappy with Ronaldo
According to local media, Ronaldo’s party was not attended by any of Real Madrid’s Spanish contingent – particularly Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos. Reports coming in from the Bernabeu suggest that a number of club officials and squad members have been openly unimpressed by the Ballon d’Or holder’s actions.
But Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes came out and defended his client’s actions, stating that ‘the party was organised a month in advance with family coming from abroad’.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men have failed to beat their city rivals this season, with Atletico beating Real in four of their six meetings. Meanwhile, fans protested Ronaldo’s celebrations with many taking to the streets and social media with banners and messages.
The video below shows various guests arriving and having a ball with Ronaldo at his birthday party. The Portuguese star himself was seen celebrating, singing songs on stage.
