Real Madrid legend Jose Maria Guti has made yet another tweet taunting Barcelona after the Catalans lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad. The Spainiard was a crucial part of the Los Galacticos side, and has never eschewed the chance to rub it in after any of Barcelona’s failings, thus endearing him to the Real Madrid faithful.
Barcelona's 0-1 loss to Real Sociedad proved to be the perfect opportunity for Guti, who took to Twitter after the match and posted a rather brief, yet evocative message.
If one notes the time of the tweet, it reveals that Guti posted the tweet soon after the final whistle blew at the Anoeta, which was sure to have rubbed salt into the wounds of the Barcelona players, who had never experienced consecutive La Liga losses this season.
Guti’s tweet composed of the ‘smiling poo’ emoji followed by three snoring icons, a reference to the Catalan cultural traditions that involve excrement and the belief that Los Cules have a tendency to falter when the pressure is raised.
The loss to Sociedad did raise the pressure on Barcelona, since Real Madrid are only 4 points behind them in 3rd place, while Atletico are 3 points behind in 2nd.
Barcelona and Real Madrid players regularly argue on Twitter
Guti’s tweet isn’t all that surprising, especially given that the Real Madrid legend has previous when it comes to Barcelona’s misfortune. Earlier in the season, Barcelona dropped points against Valencia after drawing 1-1, and Guti made the following tweet:
Translating to ‘Congratulations Barcelona for a point!’ the sarcastic taunt is representative of a Real Madrid legend who takes every opportunity to taunt Barcelona, not that there have been many this season.
Despite having retired, it seems that Guti has a succesor in Alvaro Arbeloa, as the Real Madrid fullback has taken the opportunity of an extended spell on the sidelines to Tweet multiple taunts at Barcelona, regularly sparring with Barcelona troll-in-chief Gerard Pique.
Arbeloa also tweeted upon Barcelona’s loss to Sociedad, saying “How difficult it is to win against 11 men! Great games from Illarramendi and Granero - promise fulfilled. Congratulations!“, a reference to Barcelona often playing against 10 men, including El Clasico.
