What’s the story?
Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Mateo Kovacic regarding a move to Anfield according to reports in the Daily Mirror. The Croatian is reportedly frustrated with the lack of first team games and is keen on leaving the club.
He is 'struggling' to get into the first team as Zinedine Zidane prefers the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro ahead of him. He is seen as the replacement for Emre Can, who is yet to sign a new contract, by Liverpool.

However, Sky Sports journalist, Guillem Balague believes that Real Madrid would not be willing to let go of the midfielder. “Kovacic was actually approached by two Italian clubs, one of them being Juventus, and Real Madrid said in no uncertain terms that he's not for sale. It's difficult to leave a club like Real Madrid in any case.” said the Spanish Football 'Expert'.
In case you didn’t know...
Emre Can has not yet signed a new contract and is waiting for a better offer from the club. He has an offer on the table from Juven tus but is still interested in remaining at Anfield.

What’s next?
Liverpool will hold talks with Real Madrid to negotiate a price for Kovacic. The Croatian was signed by Los Blancos from Inter Milan for a fee reported to around £27 million.
Should Madrid decide to sell him, it would take Liverpool at least cough out £35 million for him.
Author’s Take
Leaving Kovacic for Liverpool might sound ridiculous to a lot of people but it's all about game time for the players. Not everyone would want to sit on the bench and have 'played for Real Madrid' on their profile.
Kovacic looks like one of them and is reportedly keen on joining a side where he can play regularly. IF Coutinho does leave for Barcelona, Liverpool would have enough money to go and sign Kovacic.

However, things are not going to be that easy. Real Madrid have rejected offers for him already and probably have him in their plans. He just might have to wait for his chance.
