Sofia, May 22 (IANS) Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov on Friday teased Real Madrid for their La Liga record, saying the club is more concerned now with its basketball team. Real won the Champions League last season but have been without the La Liga title for seven seasons.
"It's shameful they have won just one league title in seven seasons," Stoichkov was quoted as saying by goal.com. "I think - even at my age - I'd win more than one Spanish title playing with a load of former players.”
"This year the Merengues seem to have attached more importance to their basketball team (who triumphed in the EuroLeague final last Sunday, the basketball equivalent of the Champions League), because they'll be watching the football final on television!," said the Bulgarian.
The 49-year-old has also criticised Real supporters who have whistled club captain and goalkeeper Iker Casillas, saying a handful of fans should not affect him. "Iker is a world football icon who has won everything there is and shouldn't have to leave Real Madrid because four or five or six low-lifes boo him," he added.
