Real Madrid News: Diarra Happy At Los Blancos, Says Agent

Real Madrid defensive midfielder Lassana Diarra is happy in Spain and is very much a part of Jose Mourinho’s plans, according to his agent. In spite of finding it difficult to nail down a starting spot at Los Blancos, his agent feels that Diarra is ready to fight it out for playing opportunities rather than try his luck elsewhere.

John Williams, the agent, spoke to Le 10 Sport and said that all speculations linking Diarra to a move away from the club were just hearsay and no ultimatum had been given by the Madrid directors as reported in the press. He said-

“Contrary to everything that has been said and written, Lassana has not decided to quit Real and no ultimatum for his departure has been given by the Madrid directors,”

Diarra experienced a fine purple patch upon his arrival at the Bernabeu, putting in many good performances and being one of the first names on the team sheet under Juande Ramos. But this term, he has found the going tough with both Sami Khedira and Xabi Alonso battling for the same position on the pitch.

But Williams remains unperturbed, saying that Diarra still has two years left on his current contract, and that Mourinho had placed confidence in the Frenchman for the coming season.

“He still has two more years on his contract and he feels fine at Madrid.”

“Mourinho likes him a lot and has told him he counts on him for the following season.”

Diarra has been the subject of a lot of speculation of late, being linked to Manchester United and Tottenham in England and Juventus in Italy.

Man United are in dire need of a midfield heavyweight, and Diarra has proved himself in England previously with both Chelsea and Arsenal, so he certainly fits the bill. Juventus are also looking to strengthen after a disappointing campaign, and Diarra’s composure on the ball and energetic pressing off the ball will be an instant hit in Italy.

His agent asserted that Diarra would only leave Madrid for ‘the cream of Europe’ and would continue plying his trade under Mourinho. He said-

“I have not found any club for Lass.”

“Anyway, he is not out on the street.”

“We are in a waiting position with regards to the opportunities that will be presented to us.”

“But if he has to leave, he will not leave for any club. It will either be for the cream of Europe or he will not leave.”

“It will depend specially on the project and the sporting guarantees that will be presented.”

It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Diarra. The midfielder has admitted to liking Mourinho in the past, so it seems as if he will stay on after all.
