Reports: Real Madrid offer two first team stars + cash to sign David de Gea

What’s the story?

Real Madrid are desperate to land Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and now latest reports from Spanish daily Don Balon claim that the All Whites are ready to offer both James Rodriguez and Raphael Varane + £20 million cash to sign the highly rated Spanish goalkeeper.

The former Atletico Madrid keeper has long been linked with the La Liga giants and Real Madrid are ready to go all out in the pursuit to sign him in the summer. Zidane and Perez know that Keylor Navas’ time at Madrid is coming to an end and the signing of De Gea would certainly provide a huge boost to the squad next season.

At just 26, David de Gea has established himself as one of the best (if not the best) goalkeepers in the world. Easily the best player in the Manchester United squad in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era, De Gea is bound to attract the interest of top clubs in the world.

Also, there have been plenty of rumours linking James Rodriguez with the exit door at Real Madrid. The Colombian has failed to nail down a regular starting berth under Zinedine Zidane and he looks like he could well be on his way out in the summer transfer window.

Surprisingly, according to the report, Varane is also included in this deal. The young French defender is considered to be one of the best youngsters in world football at the moment, but his regular injuries and lack of consistency this season has led to Zidane losing faith in the 23-year-old.

Real Madrid have incredible squad depth, especially in the midfield area and it is not that much of a surprise that they are ready to include James in a swap deal involving De Gea. However, with Pepe ageing and Varane also reportedly part of this deal, Los Blancos will also have to invest in a couple of centre-backs for the next season.

While James and Varane might have struggled at Madrid this season, there is no denying the quality and class they possess and they would definitely bolster any football team in the world. It just goes to show how much Real Madrid value De Gea that they are even willing to offer £20 million cash to sign the Spanish goalkeeper.

James Rodriguez’s career at Real Madrid looks all but over especially after his adverse reaction during his substitution in the match against Leganes. Varane, on the other hand, has suffered a relapse of the injury he endured earlier this year and looks out for the next month or so.

Jose Mourinho knows Real Madrid are desperate for his shot-stopper, but he will be determined to ensure that the 26-year-old performs at his usual high level for Manchester United in the business end of the season.
