Real Madrid are the most successful club in the world; the Spanish club have won the UEFA Champions League for a record breaking 11 times. To be the best club in the world, one must have the best players which naturally means the players will earn a lot.
The Meringues have the second highest wage bill in the world as their Spanish rivals Barcelona have the most expensive wage bill, according to UEFA report of 2015.
Los Blancos are the highest-earning club in the world with the record revenue of $694 million. They are also the world’s most valuable club with an estimated value of €3.64 billion.
Real Madrid was surprisingly quiet in the summer transfer window. They just re-signed their former player Alvaro Morata from Juventus for a transfer fee of €30 million. However, the renewed contracts of two of their biggest stars increased their wage bill. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale signed new deals to extend their stay at Santiago Bernabeu.
Bale’s new deal with Real Madrid will keep him at the club until 2022 with a weekly wage of £350,000. The new contract also made him the highest paid player in the Europe. But the record couldn’t last for long, as a week later, Ronaldo signed a new five-year contract which increased his salary to £365,000-a-week.
The Portuguese attacker’s weekly wage of £365,000 is after tax which means Real Madrid pay him around £700,000 a week. He is the only footballer along with Lionel Messi, who has an after-tax salary contract with his club.
