In an interview with the club website, Pogba revealed that conversations with two Real Madrid players, as well as Jose Mourinho was a key factor in his decision to return. After speaking to several Real Madrid players including Alvaro Morata and Raphael Varane, Pogba made the decision to return to England. “I spoke with a lot of players when he was at Madrid; I spoke with [Alvaro] Morata and I spoke with others and they all told me he's the coach for me because he's going to make you work harder. I feel this,” Pogba revealed.
Morata and Varane had both played under Mourinho at Madrid and their words were what convinced the Frenchman to leave Juventus.
With Madrid also interested in the football player, this revelation may not go down well with the Los Blancos board and Morata and Varane could face some serious repercussions. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain were all interested in the 23-year-old midfielder but Pogba settled on Manchester for the chance to work with the ‘Special One.’
Pogba, who had earlier been critical of his ‘first home’ after his departure in 2012, appears motivated to succeed the second time around, with his primary goal being Premier League success. "First of all, I want to win the league for the first time with United, because I hadn't won the league when I left.” He also intends on laying his hands on the ultimate prize, “The Champions League, of course, and personally one of my dreams is to win the Ballon d'Or.”
Pogba also spoke about the conversation he had with Mourinho. “I spoke with him a few times and he gave me energy and positivity. I was thinking 'why not?' I'm sure he can help me improve and make me a better player and a better person.”
Pogba’s deal makes him the world’s most expensive player, ahead of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain.
