In a completely unexpected and shocking move, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez plans to sign Barcelona‘s Sergio Busquets. Mr. Perez has stated that he wants to make a mouthwatering deal to land a “marquee” signing in the summer.

This timely promise comes ahead of the presidential elections. If he does manage to sign the Spanish international, it would certainly be quite an achievement for the Real Madrid President.

Busquets, who is into his fifth season with Barcelona, has racked up 213 appearances. He has won a host of honours including three domestic titles, two Copa del Rey and Champions League trophies. Not to mention, over 50 national team caps, a World Cup and a European Championship winners medal.

Mr. Perez feels that Busquets would provide suitable cover to the back-line and break up play before expertly distributing the ball to the wings or forwards. Busquets is the sort of player who does a ton of defensive work, and is known for his tough-tackling and late forays to help out the attack.

It would cost the Galacticos a massive sum to even persuade the Catalans to open talks for a player who they’ve raised. Busquets contract runs till 2015 and it’s reported that his release clause is a whopping €150m.
