Spaniard Raul Gonzales has agreed to personal terms with North American Soccer League (NASL) side New York Cosmos, confirms a report on ESPN.
Raul had last played for Qatar-based club Al-Saad in March earlier this year after a spell at Schalke in Bundesliga following his 16-year-career with Real Madrid where he captained the side to several accomplishments.
There were reports of Real Madrid wanting their former player to be their technical director, a position filled by Zinedine Zidane who took up management this season, but it was ultimately the New York side who cracked a deal with the Spanish striker.
He is set to sign a multi-year contract, and will be joining his teammates before the start of the next season. His other role in the team would be to serve as the director of their club’s youth academy.?
