What’s the story?

Real Madrid are ready to pay a whopping £60 million to secure the signing of David De Gea from Manchester United. Los Blancos are keen on signing him this summer and are ready to break the bank for him.

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly lost faith in Keylor Navas and wants the club to sign a replacement in the summer. The Madrid #1 has also accepted his fate and has reportedly discussed a move to Serie A side, Napoli in the summer.

In case you didn’t know...

The world record fee for any footballer is £89 million - the amount paid by Manchester United to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus last summer. However, the world-record fee for a goalkeeper is still £32 million - the amount Juventus paid Parma to sign Gianluigi Buffon 16 years ago.

Madrid have been chasing De Gea for a long time now and also struck a deal with the Red Devils for him in the summer of 2015. The deal included Navas moving in the opposite direction, but the paperwork was not submitted in time for the transfers to be sanctioned.

The heart of the matter

Los Blancos are in no mood to wait until the end of the transfer window to secure a deal for the shot-stopper this time around and are planning to complete the dealings even before this season ends.

Manchester United, however, are not willing to sell their star player in the summer. The player is said to be keen on leaving Old Trafford and wants to head back to Madrid.

Despite playing for derby rivals, Atletico Madrid, De Gea is said to be keen on joining Real Madrid. The 26-year-old is reportedly unhappy with the Red Devils not making it to the Champions League and wants to join Madrid as they play in the European competition regularly.

What’s next?

Real Madrid are set to submit a £60 million bid for De Gea in the coming weeks, but it is bound to be rebuffed by Manchester United for now. The Red Devils would want to concentrate on finishing the season first before getting into the transfer business.

Reports earlier this month suggested that Los Blancos were ready to offer Toni Kroos and £15 million for the goalkeeper, but Zidane has reportedly asked them not to let go of the German star.

Author’s Take

De Gea is all set for a move to Madrid this summer, and it should not come as a surprise to anyone. The player will be worth the amount Madrid are ready to pay for him, and it would be interesting to see who will replace him at Old Trafford.
