What’s the story?
Real Madrid might have German national team coach Joachim Low as their new manager next season according to latest reports from Spanish Daily AS. The loss in El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu has reportedly seen Zidane’s standing reduce in the Real Madrid board and Florentino Perez will sack the popular Frenchman if Real Madrid fail to win either the League or the Champions League.
The Real Madrid president has made it very clear that he expects a major trophy at the end of the season and failure to do so might cause the popular Frenchman his job with the World Cup winning manager earmarked to replace Zidane.
In case you didn’t know...
Florentino Perez has never been shy to sack managers. In fact, current Bayern Munich manager, Carlo Ancelotti was sacked the next season after winning ‘La Decima’. Other instances of Real Madrid letting top managers go ruthlessly include Vicente Del Bosque and Jupp Heynckes.
Although Low has a contract with the German board until 2020, Real Madrid are confident of luring the German to the Spanish capital. Other candidates who have been shortlisted to take over from Zidane include Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The heart of the matter
After the loss against Barcelona, the games against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final take on a lot of importance and another loss against one of their arch rivals could dent Zidane’s credibility severely.
Although Real Madrid have a game in hand, they face tricky matches against Valencia and Sevilla in the League and Barcelona will be quietly confident of catching up with their rivals and claiming the League title. Zidane will have to ensure that his Real Madrid squad do not lose focus at this vital stage if he wants to keep his job for another season.
What’s next?
Real Madrid and Zidane have a chance of bouncing back immediately as they take on Deportivo tomorrow night in a crucial League encounter. The All Whites will be desperate for all the 3 points and the Frenchman will be hoping that his squad responds to the disappointment of the Clasico loss in the best possible manner.

Author’s take
Zidane has been hugely successful at Real Madrid and one must not forget that he guided Los Blancos to the Champions League title last time and has masterminded plenty of impressive results such as the victories against Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
However, Joachim Low is also undoubtedly an extremely capable manager and should Zidane’s Real Madrid collapse at the end of the season, a move for the German manager might just revitalise Los Blancos once again.
