How Bayern Munich foiled Real Madrid's move to capture Robert Lewandowski

According to German newspaper Der Spiegel, Real Madrid tried to hijack Robert Lewandowski‘s move to Bayern Munich by offering €81 million to the player and his advisers.

The paper claims that Florentino Perez, the Real Madrid president, sought the services of British lawyer Colin Pomford who has been known to complete such deals in the past. Pomford is said to have offered the Poland striker a 6-year deal with with a salary of €9.5 million plus a €10-million signing-on fee, while his agents would pocket a cool €14 million.

Lewandowksi had to also sign a pre-contract which would keep Bayern out of contention for securing his services. But Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness apparently caught wind of the deal and informed Borussia Dortmund of Perez’s ‘immoral offer’.

Dortmund did not allow the player to sign a pre-contract and Lewandowski completed signing a 5-year deal starting from June 2014 with the reigning European champions on Saturday.
