Soon to be a free agent, Real Madrid’s central midfielder Sami Khedira has spoken up on his current status at the club after he was released from the hospital for a concussion he had sustained during Real Madrid’s 5-0 win over Cornella in a Copa del Rey encounter.
Khedira clashed against David Garcia and was replaced by Jese Rodriguez who had made a comeback to football after being out for nine months.
“Following neurological exams performed on Sami Khedira today in the Sanitas La Moraleja hospital, the player has been discharged,” later the club announced on their official website.
Khedira’s contract with the Whites expires next summer, and he is heavily targeted by Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, and is also monitored by Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Speaking in an event in Stuttgart Khedira was quoted by Metro saying, “It is a known fact that my contract expires [at the end of the season]. [The club and I] are always in good contact. I feel very comfortable in Madrid. I am not averse to staying. There are no talks with other clubs. I am curious myself to see where I will end up.”
When asked to pick his favourite for the upcoming Ballon d’Or winner, he picked his Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Germany teammate Manuel Neuer as the two favourites.
“It was a year full of events for me. I did not know whether I would be fit for the Champions League final and the World Cup again,” he said. “The three nominees embody world class and are great personalities. For me, there are two favourites: Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer. Both raised the level of their positions to a new dimension.”
“I am glad I do not have to vote. If I were [FIFA president] Sepp Blatter, I'd hand out golden balls.”
