Its official – Dani Carvajal is the first reinforcement of Real Madrid for the 2013-2014 season. Reportedly, Real exercised the buy-back clause included in Carvajal’s contract while selling him to Bayer Leverkusen in 2012. The whole deal is reported to be in the range of €6.5 million.
Carvajal left Madrid for Bayer Leverkusen last summer, after failing to appear in a single official matches with Real’s first team. At Leverkusen his performances didn’t go unnoticed. Recently, he was announced as the best right-back in Bundesliga by a German newspaper for his exceptional performances for Leverkusen this season.
The 21-year-old is set to replace Alvaro Arbeloa, who is on the verge to leave Real Madrid this summer after a string of dismal performances in the last season.
Sporting Director of Bayer Leverkusen, Rudi Voller announced Carvajal’s departure, and said, “We are sad that Daniel will no longer be a Leverkusen player, but we knew right from the start that Madrid would acknowledge his potential at some point.”
‘Real Madrid noticed the outstanding performances by Dani this season, and it was only a matter of time before they exercised their buy-back option,” he added.
The ex-academy player, has signed a six-year contract, Real Madrid said in a press release on their website.
